| Launch of the Personnel Department's Strategic Plan 2001-2004
Moving Forward… with a strategic plan
The Strategic Plan of the Personnel Department was launched on Monday November 12th 2001 at the 6th Floor Conference Room, Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Local Government. This launch was attended by all employees and featured a distribution of copies of the plan to all of the Directors within the Personnel Department. This Strategic Plan is far reaching and has implications not only for employees but also for the wider Public Service and the nation. Therefore, the following, which utilises extracts from the Plan, is an effort to briefly underscore the genesis and focus of the plan. |

| IADB Funding for Telecommunications |
| The local telecommunications sector will soon be strengthened and upgraded by a recently signed project agreement between the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and the Inter-American Development Bank.
- The project will be financed at a cost of TT $19.7 million and consists of a TT $6.2 million grant from the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) of the IADB. |

| Widespread Consultations for National Budget
January started with a new government of the Peoples National Movement taking office. The Honourable Patrick Manning, Prime Minister retained the portfolio of Minister of Finance and appointed Conrad Enill, a new comer to politics, Senator and Minister in the Ministry of Finance. The Prime Minister also appointed Member of Parliament for Diego Martin Central, The Honourable Kenneth Valley as Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister in the Ministry of Finance with responsibility for Investments and Divestment including the State sector. The Ministry of Planning and Development was separated from the Ministry of Finance. |

| Masonry Project |
| - 40 women were among 238 persons who participated in the Community Based On-Site Masonry Project, managed by the Retraining Unit of The Ministry of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education.
- The project, commenced mid July and concluded in September 2002, contributed to addressing the shortage of skilled labourers in the local construction industry. |
