Khemraj Lakhan & Amall Ali - We're winners and we're voting PNM

July Magnum - Message from the Hon. Prime Minister

I take a special pride in using the forum of the PNM Magazine the Magnum to address you as your political leader.

Since the publication of our last magazine the PNM family has celebrated another extremely successful family day and, as was expected, it turned out to be an enjoyable and memorable day. The concept of family is one that is as important to this political entity as are the values of honesty, discipline and respect. Families are the bedrock of our society. We salute the PNM family and its successful efforts to become stronger and to work for the continued improvement of our beloved nation.

As part of our social contract, the PNM in government, is responsible for defining the path that Trinidad and Tobago will take. In this vein, as you are all aware, we have decided on the Vision 2020 Plan, the pillars of which are:

  1. Developing Innovative People
  2. Nurturing a Caring Society
  3. Enabling Competitive Business
  4. Investing in Sound Infrastructure and the Environment
  5. Governing Effectively.

I take the opportunity to reiterate them so that the point can be clearly made that all of the actions of the government, your PNM Government, are in keeping with the objectives defined above. One of the vehicles that we are using to improve the lot of all of our citizens is reform which specifically speaks to our governance pillar. I refer of course to Local Government and Constitutional Reform.

This government has had a heavy legislative agenda, in the last five years we have passed the International Child Abduction Act of 2008, The Occupational Health and Safety Act of 2004, the Heritage and Stabilization Fund Act 2007, The Food and Drugs (Amendment) Act, 2005, The Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act 2007,  The Water Pollution Amemdment Rules 2006, among others. In addition, the reform of our Local Government System continues apace and we are hopeful that at the end of that process, what will emerge will be the most efficient and beneficial system of Local Government for the people of Trinidad and Tobago.

We the members of the PNM are moving towards delivering to the national community the implicit promises of our Vision 2020 plan. We are committed to continuing to do this and are grateful for all of your support.

We live in a world today where many families are being torn apart by circumstance, this is of deep concern to the government and to the Peoples National Movement. Our family is a proud one which is rooted in strong tradition and we are humbled by its enduring fortitude in these times.

We will all continue to move forward together with singularity of heart and mind towards the same goal, a better Trinidad and Tobago. Keep this in mind as you enjoy this magazine, keep this in mind as you absorb the information that must emerge and keep this in mind as you go about your daily tasks.

May God Bless you all
