Prime Minister, Patrick Manning has criticised an editorial in yesterday’s Newsday headlined, “Build houses, not stadia” as he sought yesterday to defend his government’s housing programme at the launch of the PNM’s redesigned website at Balisier House. Manning said it was the most ambitious ever in TT and the entire Caribbean, and will turn out to be one of the most ambitious in the world.
“Nelson Mandela built far more houses than was ever built in South Africa and for those who are saying houses before stadia, in TT, you will get houses, and stadia,” he said. Manning said the PNM’s major error was its inability to get “the message” out to the public and the reorganised website is a conscious effort to correct it.
“People will now know that we are not operating in a ‘vikey-vike’ manner. “As they browse the PNM website, they will enter into a wave of political knowledge only the PNM could give at this time.” He said after the PNM implemented its 2020 Vision, its fourth, the country has seen rapid development, and a more comprehensive dissemination of information on what was taking place was needed.
PNM Party Vice-Chairman, John Donaldson, said the launch of the reorganised website was a part of the PNM’s 50th anniversary celebrations. “A lot of what is said is not informed by the truth and is deliberate misinformation. We need to let people know what makes the PNM great and what made it prevail,” Donaldson said. |
