The North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) formally opened yet another facility: the St. James District Health Facility (DHF). This highly anticipated facility is located on the compound of the St. James Medical Complex, Western Main Road, St. James and provides 24 hour Emergency Service to the area.

Minister of Health Jerry Narace highlighted the importance of having a District Health Facility in this area, noting that it provides point-of-care testing. This meant that patients will have a "one-stop-shop" for diagnosis, testing and treatment of certain conditions. The Minister also pointed out that the centre provides "community health care" which is part of the strategy of reducing the large influx at the Port-of-Spain GeneralHospital.
